BOWLING GREEN, KY. — On a predominantly picture-perfect weekend at Beech Bend Raceway Park—a fantastic old dragstrip nestled next to a rustic amusement park featuring a hilltop wooden coaster begging for a ride—racers, race fans, and car enthusiasts gathered to celebrate General Motors’ LS engine at the Holley LS Fest, Sept. 7-9.
It was a weekend full of fantastic cars, drag racing, autocross competitions, a 0-60-0 contest, a show and shine, and the OPTIMA-sponsored Ultimate Street Car competition.
The Holley LS Fest is a Chevy man’s dream. There were Camaros and Corvettes from nearly every generation. There were plenty of Pontiacs. There were many interesting cars with LS engine swaps, like Nissan 240SX drift cars, BMWs, Mazda RX-7s, Honda S2000s, even (*gasp*) Ford Mustangs, as well as many more common swaps to classic ’60s-’80s GM muscle cars. Since the LS engine is so popular in the aftermarket, tons of companies were on hand to display their wares for hopping up or swapping LS engines into almost any vehicle imaginable.
Jeff Lee of HammerHead Housings, whose company builds a 12 bolt replacement independent rear suspension kit for new Camaros (available soon) and other upcoming applications, attended Holley LS Fest as well.
Lee contributed to this report, and provided a bunch of fantastic images from the LS Fest. You can follow him at @JeffLee (twitter.com/JeffLee) on Twitter.
