The popularity of the GM LS engine has been well documented by OnAllCylinders.
We’ve covered LS swaps, LS conversion kits, and parts developed just to make LS upgrades easier. But if you just can’t get enough of General Motors’ latest-generation performance mill, we suggest you get to LS Fest the weekend of September 6.
Every year, early and late model muscle cars and trucks make the pilgrimage to Holley’s LS Fest in Bowling Green, KY. More than just a car show, LS Fest gives automotive enthusiasts with LS-equipped V8 engines in their vehicle an opportunity to test power, speed, and handling in a safe and fun environment. Made for both first timers or experienced veterans, the LS Fest has numerous events with door prizes and excellent payouts for competitors.
A total of seven different drag racing classes will be at this year’s show, including a new Pro Extreme LSX class, where someone will be crowned “The Fastest LSX Powered Door-Slammer In The Country!” Other classes include a 5th Gen Camaro Challenge, LSX All Motor, LSX Drag Radial, LSX Real Street, LSX Rumble (Index Brackets), and a True Street class. In addition, the LS Fest is home to the GM Performance Parts LSX Challenge Series, as well as the GM Hi-Tech Performance Magazine & NOS Shut Your Face Race (275 radial limit).
If taking tight corners is more to your liking, the low-speed autocross course puts you and your car’s handling abilities to the test. In addition to this popular venue during the LS Fest, Holley asked six-time SCCA Solo II Champion Danny Popp to come by and provide free tips and instructions to participants signed up for this event. In addition, all autocross competitors at the LS Fest, are also able to compete in the 3S Challenge, (Speed, Stop & Steering). This three-part competition combines the elements of an autocross and a speed-stop event all in one.
By far, one of the most-anticipated events during the LS Fest is the Engine Swap Challenge. This year, Holley is supplying the cars and engines. Two pre-selected teams will bring their tools and skills to see who can swap in an LS motor in the fastest time. The winning team gets to keep the engine, and all the Holley LS aftermarket parts on it! While you need to be selected to participate in this event, it’s still one of the most watched by spectators who cheer and give advice from the sidelines.
If you attend this year’s event, you may see a few import vehicles in attendance. While they may at first seem out of place, you’ll quickly realize they’re LS powered as they spin their tires while drifting around the race track during the Drift Competition. The competitors gracefully slide their LS powered vehicle sideways around turns to compete for a $1,500 purse and $750 dollars worth of Holley Gift Certificates
For those who don’t want to burn rubber at the LS Fest, but still want to participate at some level, the Dyno Challenge allows any LS Fest participant to have their vehicle measured for power and torque. First, second, and third place awards will be given to those who lay down the highest numbers in both power adder and non power adder categories. Another possibility is to simply sit back and relax as other people look and gaze at your pride and joy at the Show And Shine. With numerous classes, chances are you’ll be rewarded for bringing your polished ride to the show.
So no matter what level of participation you feel comfortable with, the fact is that the LS Fest is like a horsepower show where your vehicle is the “E-ticket” ride! For more information, visit www.holley.com/lsfest.
