Sources are saying it’s highly probable that Ford will unveil a special edition Mustang “Bullitt” at the upcoming North American International Auto Show in Detroit, MI.
The special Ford Mustang is rumored to be a 2018 model, which marks the 50th anniversary of the movie “Bullitt,” released in 1968.
We suspect the new Mustang Bullitt will wear a similar dark-green paint scheme and five-spoke wheels to the 1968 Mustang GT featured in the original film.
Starring Steve McQueen, the movie “Bullitt” has reached cult-status among gearheads for having one of the most famous car chases in cinema history. The chase features a 1968 Ford Mustang GT and 1968 Dodge Charger screaming through the streets of downtown San Francisco. Filmed in an era before computer animation, the sequence relied on both skillful driving and editing.
Details on the new Bullitt Mustang are sketchy at best—no production numbers or performance specs have been released.
If Ford does pull the wraps off next week, we’ll update this post accordingly.
