NASCAR has postponed the race events scheduled at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend and next weekend’s race at Homestead-Miami Speedway in response to the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus public health crisis.
IndyCar has canceled all events through April.
NHRA on March 12 announced it was postponing this weekend’s previously scheduled NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, FL.
The move by these motorsports organizations is in line with every other significant sports organization in the United States. The NBA, NCAA, Major League Baseball, the Boston Marathon, and The Masters golf tournament have all postponed or canceled events in an effort to protect fans and participants from this virus.
“NASCAR has decided to postpone the race events at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend and Homestead-Miami Speedway next weekend,” NASCAR officials said. “We believe this decision is in the best interest of the safety and well-being of our fans, competitors, officials and everyone associated with our sport. We will continue to monitor this dynamic situation as we assess future race events.”
