Hemmings Auction Find of the Week: 1955 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup

The 1955 models were the last of GM’s Advance Design pickups introduced in 1947. These trucks were sold until the first of the brand-new Task Force trucks went on sale later in the year. Advance Design trucks are very popular and easy to modify; this one seems to have the heavy lifting already done.

This Advance Design 1955 Chevrolet 3100 is described as being of good driver-quality appearance, and needing a little bit of attention to the cab interior. The 350 cubic inch small block is fed by a four-barrel carburetor atop an Edelbrock Performer EPS intake manifold. A chrome air cleaner housing from Summit Racing Equipment is also in place, as are new ignition wires, hoses, and fittings for the aftermarket air-conditioning system. The engine is said to start willingly and idle smoothly, without smoke. The rebuilt GM Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 three-speed automatic transmission reportedly shifts properly.

The truck utilizes its original unassisted steering box. Suspension service performed in 2019 included new shock absorbers, chassis bushings, springs and an anti-roll bar. An aftermarket power brake kit was also installed, but the seller says the 3100 currently has a soft brake pedal. The underside of the truck, which incorporates the spare-tire well, appears to be exceptionally clean.

The 3100 has had a patch panel installed to correct the only known area of rust on the truck. The truck was repainted three years ago, and the finish is described as being in driver condition. The cargo bed has a new walnut floor with stainless locating strips that look to have only a few minor scratches.
