Engine belts don’t go gentle into that good night. They squeal and chirp as they wear, giving you an annoying audible warning that something’s amiss under your vehicle’s hood.
Yet as silly as it sounds (pun intended), there is a distinct difference between an engine belt chirp and a squeal—and knowing the difference not only gives you a head start on repairing your car, truck, or SUV, it can save you some money by avoiding a misdiagnosis.
Oh, and spoiler alert: your engine belt squeal or chirp may not even be the belt’s fault.
