The factory off-road performance truck market continues to expand, as Chevy has just pulled the wraps off of its new 2022 Silverado ZR2.

Chevy says the new truck will offer “race-proven performance right off the showroom floor,” and it goes on to list both desert running and rock crawling among its capabilities.

In addition to its off-road prowess, Chevy says the new Silverado ZR2 is also equally at home handling commuting and workweek duties. (Image/Chevy)

The company also makes it clear that the new Chevy Silverado ZR2 didn’t lose much of its street manners or versatility, and will carry a 1,440 pound payload capacity and a 8,900 pound conventional trailer rating.

So, What’s in the Silverado ZR2 Package?

For starters, checking the ZR2 option box gives you a 6.2L V8 and 10 speed automatic. While the press release didn’t mention any horsepower figures, the current 6.2L available for the Silverado cranks out 420 hp and 460 lb.-ft. of torque, so we imagine it’ll be in that ballpark.

The ZR2’s suspension gets special Multimatic dampers too, which offer adjustable damping curves to adapt to the terrain. Unique springs complement the dampers.

For the off-roading folks, the ZR2 package includes a factory two inch lift, 33 inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory mud terrains, a skid plate, and electronic locking diffs, front and rear.

The Silverado also has a fancy one-pedal driving feature that’ll apply the brakes as you lift your foot off the throttle—a pretty handy tool when traversing rough terrain.

Outside, you’ll notice a new steel off road bumper that, in addition to being strong and durable, Chevy says provides a 31 degree approach angle. The 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 also comes with special 18 inch wheels and a unique grille.

Expect to see the new 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 arrive in dealerships by spring of 2022. You can learn more about the 2022 Silverado here.

Boasting some legit upgrades like front/rear e-lockers and adjustable dampers, Chevy hopes the new Silverado ZR2 will be a strong entry into the increasingly competitive off-road performance truck segment. (Image/Chevy)
