Ahhh, the humble wheel stud.
At first glance, there’s not much to it. It’s simply a threaded shaft that, along with your lug nut, helps secure your wheel to the hub face.
Truth is though, the wheel stud’s job is far, far more nuanced than that.
So much so, that the wheel experts at WELD Racing spent over eight minutes(!) explaining the roll ..err… role your wheel stud plays in a proper wheel installation.
Think that’s being dramatic? Watch this video. It covers topics like how to measure a bolt circle, the importance of stud stretch and proper lug nut torque, hub surface friction, thread lubrication, and more.
So if you want to impress your gearhead buddies with some expansive knowledge on an oft-overlooked subject, the video below is worth checking out:
Was not the title of the video “How to measure wheel bolt pattern” ? Cuz unless I missed it, I don’t believe he discussed how to measure the wheel mounting pattern in the entire 8 minutes.
Thanks Jeff–we made a tweak to our title but you’ll probably still see it on Weld’s video on YouTube. Thanks for the catch!
