When Ford unleashed its sixth-generation Bronco a few years back, it quickly became one of the hottest new vehicles in the gearhead universe—and we knew it was only a matter of time before the gang at Summit Racing got their hands on one.

And now, that time has come.

For its Ford Bronco build series, the Summit Racing folks are taking a stock 2022 Bronco and giving it some key upgrades to make it an even more versatile off-roader—and it’s staying street legal. Better yet, they’re doing it as an homage to the Mexican 1,000-winning 1969 Bronco driven by legendary racer Rod Hall.

One of the things that’s often overlooked during a build series is that, for many of us, the project doesn’t happen all at once. Things like time, space, and budget often mean DIY’ers undertake a massive upgrade project like this in sections, or stages.

And that’s precisely what the Summit Racing team did on its Project Baja Bronco build.

So in this episode, the team recaps “Stage 1” of the Baja Bronco upgrade series. You’ll see its progress so far, hear about what went into the first stage of the build, and learn why this might be a logical stopping point for many folks.

As you’d imagine though, Summit Racing isn’t done yet, so stay tuned for Stage 2 as the project moves under the Bronco’s hood for some performance upgrades before returning outside for a style tweak on a previous upgrade.
