For gearheads across generations, Joe Elmore is a familiar and welcome sight whenever we pop on the television. Over the decades, Joe became a fixture on many top-notch car enthusiast TV shows, from Horsepower TV to Detroit Muscle and beyond.
In other words, if Joe Elmore was on the screen, you knew what you were doing for the next 30 minutes.
As the TV landscape evolved, so did Joe, growing his career to become a cornerstone of the PowerNation TV series of programs geared toward car nuts of all ages.
He had a knack for explaining and demonstrating complex automotive concepts in a straightforward, easy-to-follow way—with a friendly demeanor and smile that made it both informative and enjoyable.
Away from the garage, Joe Elmore also hosted the popular “Tennessee Crossroads” program from Nashville Public Television since the show began in the 1980s. His work with the series helped earn him a spot in The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Nashville/Midsouth Chapter’s Silver Circle in 2014.
Joe Elmore passed away on June 17, 2024 after a long battle with illness. He was 80 years old.
I always like to watch any car program Joe was on. Always helpful, even-keel, and explained things in ways almost anybody could understand. Once I found “PowerBlock” and he was on, it was a whole Saturday morning of enjoyment. May he Rest in Peace knowing the joy he brought to so many in the world of the car hobby.
Joe Elmore was a happy car enthusiast I could look forward to on Power Nation TV on Sundays. After 40+ years as an ASE Master Tech, keeping up with new products and procedures was entertainment for me. I place him up there as a car guy like Jerry West played basketball. Both were great. I tried hard to bring his calm instruction into my technical service seminars though out the upper Midwest for Delco covering 30+ subjects. Retired now, I tried to combine his skills to deliver subjects as complicated as systems get. I miss you Joe!
