A rim strip, also sometimes called rim tape, is often used on a spoked wire wheel or any wheel that uses a tire tube to protect the tire tube itself from being punctured or damaged by the wheel spokes. (In some scenarios, it can help the tire tube from shifting on the inside of the wheel rim as well.)
