If you’re into the show car scene, you’ve no doubt heard the name Murray Pfaff. His studio, Pfaff Designs, cranks out some of the most incredible custom cars and trucks we’ve seen over the past few decades. (Just ask the folks at “Hot Rod” magazine, Rad Rides by Troy, Detroit Speed & Engineering, and Roush Racing.)

Murrary Pfaff also sketched up this 1956 Bel Air that recently graced a Summit Racing catalog cover.

Yup, from late model trucks to classic Detroit steel, Murray Pfaff has had a lot of awesome rides come through his shop—so it takes a lot to surprise us. (Remember, Murray’s the guy who cut-down a full size 1959 Chrysler Imperial sedan to make his 1959 Imperial Speedster show car.)

…But when we saw him roll up to the 2024 Goodguys Summit Racing Nationals in this VW-derived Meyers Manx SR2 coupe, our jaws were on the proverbial floor.

Never heard of the SR2? Don’t worry, neither had we.

After his success building Beetle-based Manx dune buggies, Bruce Meyers saw a potential market for more road-biased sport coupes. And thus, the Manx SR2 “Street Roadster” was born.

Still built on a Beetle platform and still carrying the trusty VW air-cooled four in the back, the SR2 is part dune buggy, part sports car, and…if we’re being honest here…part cartoon character.

Suffice it to say, we had to get Mr. Pfaff on camera for an interview to learn more about the car, why he picked it up, and what he’s doing with it now.

Check it all out in this quick video feature from the 2024 Goodguys Summit Racing Nationals:
