When it comes header clearance, proper fitment can be a game of millimeters. And that’s doubly true if you’re making an engine swap or cramming-in a set of aftermarket performance headers. In fact, sometimes the difference between a stubborn bit of interference and an easy header installation comes down to a simple divot in a single primary tube.
Problem is, making that dimple usually means covering a large socket in a shop rag and whacking it against the header tube with a big freakin’ hammer—suffice it to say, that process is neither precise nor safe for your fingers.
That’s why the Summit Racing tech gurus came up with a line of Professional Pipe Shapers, which they lovingly refer to as “Pro Dingers.” You simply slip the tool around the header tube, clamp it tight, then turn the top bolt to slowly press-in the curved die and make the divot. You can control how deep the dimple goes too, so it’ll be sized exactly for your needs.
All told, these clever tools put a clean, precise dimple in the primary tube—exactly where you need it—and you won’t have to worry about jeopardizing your ability to play the piano.
Summit Racing makes its Pro Dingers in a range of sizes for pretty much every common header diameter, so you can find the perfect one to solve your header fitment issue. And it’ll make an standardized divot that you can repeat on your other primary tubes if need be.
