It’s no secret that the first thing Jeep owners do to tackle more aggressive trails is add a big tire/wheel combo, along with a lift kit to ensure it all fits.

Problem is, once you do that, you’ve significantly altered the chassis geometry and rolling mass of your Jeep Wrangler. That means your stock brake package may no longer be able to supply enough “Whoa Nelly” to bring your rig to a safe, controlled stop.

That’s why the folks over at SSBC-USA created a lineup of M6 Moab Caliper Upgrade Kits for the Jeep Wrangler JK and JL, and the Jeep Gladiator.

Thanks to a ton of R&D work, the brake experts at SSBC-USA figured out a way to add a beefy six-piston caliper to the Wrangler’s stock brake system with no further modifications. You can use a stock size rotor and stock master cylinder—it’s a simple bolt-on upgrade that you can do in your driveway in an afternoon.

The six-piston calipers themselves are made from billet aluminum and feature stainless pistons to withstand all the muck, water, and grit that your Wrangler will toss around. The Moab Caliper kits come with a set of pads and all the brackets you’ll need to install them. They’ll bolt right up to the factory location and use all the factory fittings and plumbing—no other brake system modifications are needed. In fact, SSBC-USA tells us that these calipers will still fit inside the stock wheel.

These kits retain the stock rotor size, and SSBC-USA strongly recommends you replace your rotors at the same time to ensure the new pads and rotors bed-in together.

Better still, in addition to the caliper-only upgrade kits, SSBC-USA offers more robust Moab Disc Brake Upgrade Kits that include the rotors as well. They’re available for both front and rear axle applications.

We sat down with Tom Reid, president and CEO of SSBC-USA (and obviously a really smart brake guy), to talk all about general brake topics for a recent podcast episode. We discussed a lot of key braking subjects, from install tips to stopping science. If you want to nerd-out on brake tech, it’s definitely worth a listen:
