If it’s not obvious already, we’re big fans of Binders around here—in any flavor.

So when we heard that the Scout name was being reborn as an all-electric vehicle lineup, our eyebrows raised considerably.

And now, after seeing the concept vehicles break cover last week, we’re breathing a lot easier.

The new models will come in two flavors: a pickup truck dubbed the “Terra” and the SUV variant dubbed the “Traveler”.

There’s a lot of good stuff to digest here, so let’s dig in.

For starters, Scout Motors totally nailed the look. Its designers were able to capture the rugged, utilitarian appearance of the O.G. Scout and massage it into a thoroughly modern vehicle—without being over burdened with retro styling cues.

At the same time though, it’s easy to see the lineage back the IH models of yesteryear, particularly the later Scout II model built to compete with the larger Blazer and Ramcharger models released in the early 1970s.

And it gets even better inside when, despite the presence of some fancy flat screens, the driver is greeted by leather and wood accents, along with (GASP) a column shift(!) plus toggle switches(!!) for the accessories.

Heck, the truck even has a bench seat—slow clap, Scout Motors, slow clap.

Looks aside, lets get to the real goods here.

Both the Traveler and Terra are true body-on-frame vehicles, and the four-wheel-drive electric driveline connects to a solid axle out back and, we’re guessing some sort of IFS up front with a direct drive electric motor. There’s an electric drive unit on each axle.

Better still, Scout Motors says the vehicles will carry mechanical lockers front AND rear, so it’s clear that there’s some serious off-roading intent here.

While Scout Motors was vague about some of the details—and we’re certainly looking at pre-production models here—the press release claims a “projected” towing capacity of over 7,000 pounds for the Traveler SUV and over 10,000 pounds for the Terra truck. Both vehicles carry a 2,000 pound payload rating.

Depending on the trim, Scout Motors says these vehicles will offer up to 35 inch tires, over a foot of ground clearance, nearly three feet of water fording capability, a front sway bar disconnect, generous approach/departure angles, and robust (presumably off-road oriented) suspension options.

Scout Motors also says the fully electric models will have a 350 mile range and they’ll be variants equipped with an onboard gas generator (called the “Harvester” no less!) that increases range to 500 miles.

In other words, buyers can opt for either a fully-electric model or one with that aforementioned Harvester gas generator depending on their range demands.

The release says production of these new EVs will begin sometime in 2027, at the Scout Motors plant outside Columbia, South Carolina.

According to Scout Motors, pricing for the Traveler SUV begins in the $50,000s with available incentives, while the Terra truck starts as low as $51,500 with available incentives. Pricing on both entry level models is projected to be under $60,000.
