As we all know from our engine performance 101 class, the cooler the air, the better the combustion.
Problem is, air gets really, really hot when you compress and squeeze it, like you do in a turbocharger or supercharger system.
That’s why high performance engine builders look to intercooling to cool the intake air.
But here’s the thing, it’s not always easy to fit an intercooler setup in a cramped engine bay—and that’s especially true in an engine swap scenario.
That’s why we really like the LSXHR Intake Manifold Intercooler from FAST that we spotted during the 2024 SEMA Show.
Designed to work with high-ram LSXHR 103mm intake manifolds, this handy little unit lets you stuff an air-to-water intercooler atop the engine. Not only does that free up space around the motor, the air-to-water method means you don’t have to fiddle with the complexity of large intercooler tubing.
Better still, the efficient design significantly improves cooling of the intake charge. In fact, the FAST folks say the saw up to a 200 degree decrease in inlet air temperature.
