On a day when we usually like to talk about Plymouth (rocks or otherwise), we’re adjusting tack a bit.
So, considering this is the time of year when many folks head out of town to visit family and friends, we wanted to show you a close Plymouth cousin on the Mopar family tree, this 1959 Dodge Sierra.
Admittedly, we weren’t too familiar with the Dodge Sierra nameplate. In fact, we had to circle in for a closer look when we spotted this one at the 2024 Goodguys Summit Racing Nationals last summer in Columbus, Ohio.
In the 1957-59 Dodge model lineup, the Sierra name was reserved for the wagon version of the Royal sedan—straddling the austere Coronet models and the top-tier Custom Royal series.
We know this one’s a 1959 thanks to a final-year facelift that gave the Sierra a more angular set of “eyelids” above each headlight.
Under the hood is a 361 cubic inch Chrysler B-Series Big Block, likely making close to 300 (crank) horsepower.
But what really got us thinking about this Sierra in the context of road tripping is its collection of vintage tourism stickers placed all over the rear glass. No doubt those decals tell the story of a well-traveled life for the old Dodge.
As an added treat, in the back was a matched set of color-keyed vintage luggage—ready for a long trip over the river and through the proverbial woods.
So if you’re heading out on the roadways today, please be safe and enjoy the drive.
…We hope there’s a slice of homemade pumpkin pie waiting for you at the end.
