Fresh off its first NHRA Manufacturers Cup Championship, Toyota announced that it was ending its involvement with the NHRA drag racing series at the end of the 2025 racing season.
The news follows shortly after the NHRA revealed in November that Cornwell Quality Tools is the new title sponsor for the 2025 U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis—taking over for Toyota, which sponsored the same event in 2024.
Toyota Motor North America and, later, the Toyota Gazoo Racing division had been active on the United States drag racing scene since the early 2000s, nabbing hundreds of race wins, along with several NHRA Championship Wallys along the way.
In fact, the last two NHRA Top Fuel champs, Doug Kalitta (2023) and Antron Brown (2024), both raced under the Toyota banner.
Toyota had relationships with some of the biggest teams in the NHRA, including the aforementioned Kalitta Motorsports and AB Motorsports, along with other major names like Torrence Racing and Ron Capps Motorsports.
It has also been the official car of the NHRA since 2014.
Outside of Top Fuel, Toyota first offered Funny Car bodies of its Camry sedan and then, for the 2022 season, the Supra sports car.
…Heck, there’s even a Supra Funny Car for the NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League.
Toyota will continue its partnership with the NHRA through the 2025 season, set to kick off March 6 with the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida.
As of the time of this article, NHRA has not announced any plans for Toyota’s replacement.
