Based in Australia, Patriot Campers knows how to build an off-road rig that’ll traverse rough terrain. Case in point, check out this rugged 1977 Toyota FJ49 Land Cruiser Pickup Truck it put together for this year’s SEMA show.

While it certainly looks the part of a vintage off-roader on the outside, underneath that delightfully patina’d sheetmetal hides a host of modern upgrades.

For starters, it’s carrying an engine and transmission plucked from a later model 79 Series Land Cruiser. That donor rig supplied the differentials as well, along with its front coil springs. Then, the FJ45 got some more driveline and suspension upgrades to ensure it could handle the rigors of the outback.

The 1977 FJ also wears custom fender flares and wraparound trail armor bars, plus a one-off exo-cage designed by Patriot Campers. Up front is a Warn Winch and some supplemental LED off-road lights, while a custom REDARC power system supplies the FJ restomod with a steady sip of DC.
