When it comes to picking the best forged pistons for your performance or race engine, you’ll probably hear two different alloys being mentioned quite often: 2618 and 4032.
Truth is, both 2618 and 4032 piston alloys have their own pros and cons, and there’s no one-size-fits-all answer to which piston alloy is the best option for your particular engine application.
But the good news is, if you have a clear idea of what you’re using your engine for—be it a weekend cruiser, Saturday night street machine, or an all-out drag race car—then determining the best piston is much easier.
To help you make a decision, the Summit Racing folks sat down with piston expert Trey McFarland from RaceTec Pistons for a quick discussion on the differences between the 2618 and 4032 alloys. And their chat was packed with excellent information to lead you to which piston alloy will work best in your performance or race engine.
If you really want to get into the weeds on the topic of pistons, Trey joined us for an episode of the OnAllCylinders Podcast as well. Check it out here: Trey McFarland from RaceTec Pistons Dives Deep Into Piston Tech
The Summit Racing video is a shade over six minutes long and is loaded with valuable insight that will come in handy when it comes time to select the right pistons for your next engine build. Watch it here:
