While it’s pretty much beloved by the Blue Oval Brigade, the Fox Body Ford Mustang is not without some shortcomings. And one of the primary spots many enthusiasts point to is its drum brakes out back.
But the folks at Leed Brakes have an excellent solution with this rear disc brake conversion kit for the 1979-86 Ford Mustang.
The braking experts at Leed say this will fit Fox Bodies with either the trusty Ford 7.5 or 8.8 inch rear axle—but you should check your axle housing flange dimensions with the illustration below to ensure proper fitment.
But this kit is more than just a rear disc conversion—it’s a big, big upgrade.
Compared to the rear disc brakes in both the factory SN95 Mustang AND the 1993 Cobra, this kit uses bigger rotors, bigger pads, and calipers with bigger pistons.
And you get pretty much everything you need in the kit to finish the swap, including key components like the calipers, pads, rotors, mounting brackets, hoses, steel parking brake cables, and hardware. (The caliper also has the parking brake built right in too.)
Leed tells us that it uses new high quality, precision machined parts with a zinc plated finish to reduce corrosion and extend the brake system service life.
