You spoke. We listened.
When we presented our 10 favorite movie cars about a month ago, we wanted to have some fun and get the conversation started.
And you guys delivered.
Some of you were less than enthused with some of our choices. One passionate reader, Gene S., was particularly disappointed.
Gene offered this: [sic] “if this the ones who did this dos not know moves cars this is B-S…NOT GOOD ONES YOU GOT 3 OUT OF 10 RIGHT!!! DO IT OVER?”
We heard you, Gene!
So we rifled through all the comments on the blog as well as Summit Racing’s Facebook page, calculated the ‘likes’ and came up with a new list of 10 cars—this time, courtesy of you.
Bullitt was on our original list. And it was your #1 movie car. But we’re going to skip any repeats from the first list, of which there were a few. You’ll find the actual Top 10 list as voted on by you at the bottom of this post.
But meanwhile, here are 10 of your favorite movie cars—ever.
The List
1973 Mustang Mach 1 – Eleanor
Gone in 60 Seconds, 1974
Eleanor graced the big screen twice. Once in 1974 in Gone in 60 Seconds and again in 2000 in Gone in Sixty Seconds. She looked good both times.
Your comments:
From Jayson B. – “Eleanor takes it, come on! Greatest stunts ever and still running.”
From Jessie L. – “If you talk Eleanor, I would go with the first one, not that crap from the second one.”
1967 Mustang Shelby Cobra GT 500 – Eleanor
Gone in Sixty Seconds, 2000
The preference between the two Eleanors is probably nothing more than a generational thing. Or a true affinity for Nicholas Cage’s acting abilities. Jessie L. called this car ‘crap.’ We can’t all be right. Or can we?
Your comments:
From Mark W. – “No Shelby GT 500 from Gone in Sixty Seconds? WTF?”
From Lawrence N. – “Eleanor is the greatest Mustang—and car—built.”
1955 Chevy 150
Two-Lane Blacktop
Two-Lane Blacktop is a 1971 film about two dudes drag racing their way across the country in a primer-gray ’55 Chevy. Hard to believe the cat who drove the heck out of that car is more famous for singing this.
Your comments:
From Rick R. – “The ’55 Chevy from Two-Lane Blacktop should be in this list, instead of some that are here…”
From Steven B. – “Two-Lane Blacktop… hands down!”
1970 Dodge Charger R/T
The Fast and the Furious
Released in 2001, The Fast and the Furious spawned a tuner craze among high school and college-aged kids. Lost in all the sport-compact hoopla is the fact that the film, while entertaining, was a total rip off of Point Break.
Whoa.
Your comments:
From Ronald W. – “I’ll take the Fast and the Furious Charger.”
From Shane H. – “The black Charger from The Fast and the Furious is right…”
1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 440
The Vanishing Point
The Vanishing Point is a lot like Smokey and the Bandit only with a lot less beer and a lot more Mopar. Colorado to San Francisco, CA in 15 hours? What could go wrong?
Your comments:
From Jackie O. – “1970 Challenger from Vanishing Point!!!!!!!!!!!”
From Gary H. – “I personally love the Challenger on Vanishing Point!”
1958 Plymouth Fury
Christine
Should we be worried about you guys? This bad girl murdered people. But we admit it: She looks really good when she’s not on fire or totally beat to hell.
Your comments:
John S. – “Christine… couldn’t be beat!! Only that damn loader!!”
Shizzle F. – “You can’t not love Christine.”
1973 Ford Falcon GT
Mad Max
Before Mel Gibson got famous for more than just his acting and filmmaking talents, he was headlining some pretty sweet movies in the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s. Mad Max was one of them. But you guys remembered the car.
Your comments:
Morgan M. – “… and Mad Max are awesome car movies! ‘Nuff said.”
1972 Ford Gran Torino
Gran Torino
Pop quiz: Can you name a guy who’s been as awesome, and for as long, as Clint Eastwood has? Ha! Trick question. There isn’t one.
Your comments:
Georgiann S. – “Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino.”
2007 Chevrolet Camaro concept – Bumblebee
Transformers
For many, the 2007 live-action version of Transformers was the first time they laid eyes on the fifth-generation Chevy Camaro which wasn’t offered to the public until the 2010 model year. That scene left an impression on everyone excited about this era of retro-styled American muscle cars.
Your comments:
From Amber C. – “What about Bumblebee?”
1973 Chevrolet Corvette Stringray
Corvette Summer
Corvette Summer is the perfect movie for those wondering what Mark Hamill did when he wasn’t playing Luke Skywalker or doing this. They gave this Corvette a right-hand steering wheel—which totally makes sense to exactly no one.
Your comments:
James S. – “Corvette Summer when it’s the candy red!”
Martin B. – “Corvette Summer… :-D”

Definetely ’70 Challenger from Vanishing Point.
can’t forget Stallone’s Mercury in the movie “Cobra”.
x2 on the Challenger.
id deff have to say the vanishing point challenger thats my dream car but i also really like the Shelby Cobra GT 500 – Eleanor from the new gone in 60 seconds
67 GTO In XXX?
the american graffitti coupe was a 5 window not a duce…
deuce means 2 door, not window count…
“Deuce” means ’32 (as opposed to 33, 34, 35, etc.)
One word. CHRISTINE!
The Car. Scared the hell out of me!
road warrior
The ’70 Challenger from “Vanishing Point” should definitely be the one from the original movie, not the remake. 426 Hemi with a 4-speed!
Definitely Mopar 70 challenger from Vanishing Point!
You guys are forgetting Peter Fonda’s Cobra GT from “The Gumball Rally!” That would be my number 2 or 3 on the list!
The Black 1967 RS/SS Camaro from the movie “Better Off Dead” is my all time favourite Car moment in a movie. I’m a Corvette nut and have yet to see one in a movie that is as awesome as this Camaro.
Seeing as the Dukes of Hazzard became a bad movie, how about the Charger, “General Lee”
Milners 32 coupe? That has to be the number 1 movie car of all times. The 58 Impala Ron Howard drove in the same movie. What about all the cars from Hollywood Knights. The 57 chevy (project X)that Tony Danza drove or Newbomb’s 56 pie wagon.
the black cuda from the movie phantasm!
HELL YES. (the hearse was pretty cool too)
the black cuda from phantasm!!
the 55 chevy from Macon County Line.
Sorry the 68 Charger was the car of the show Bullit.. It was stock and the Mustang had ot be beafed up to beat the Charger.
Many of those 68 Mustang GT’s came with Fords Hi po 390 engine and it was very torquey at low rpm. I had one. Easy 14’s back then on stock tires.
No Blown Hemi Willys from HotRod?
What about the Stang in 007’s Diamonds are forever?
[…] guys already dubbed Christine one of your favorite movie cars but there was no way we were leaving her off this list. She’s sexy. She can fix herself. And she […]
what about the car what an evil car that was gorge barris built it
You talking about the Munster Tbucket? Or the Dragula? George Barris built many cool cars for TV and celebs. He even built a V8 Vega for Sammy davis jr. Severlal for Elvis too.
The 55 Chevy from American Graffiti is the same car from Two Lane Blacktop.
Where is Project X (Yellow 57 Chevy) from Hollywood Knights
wasn’t the 55 chevy from two lane black top and American Graffiti the same car?
oficially yes, one of 3 made for both movies
If you seenthe Project X 57 today you would cry. Not even the same car. I wish they would go back to how it was.
I read years ago project X was sold to some guy in Florida and he re painted it and return it back to 1957 stock original.
still belongs to peterson publishing, was redone again a few years back by GM Perfomance
That black car fro those movies about the fellow who dresses like a bat.
Yur list is ok but ANYBODY who knows ANYTHING about movie cars knows that cars nos. 3 & 4 on yur list are the SAME CAR !!! Furthermore the American Graffitti ’32 ford coupe of John Milner should be no. 2 !!!
Milner coupe is number 1. Then i would have to go with Project x. Then Christine. Then the 68 Mustang cause it had a Chevy engine they put in it. lol.
Waste of a Chevy engine
They had to it wouldnt keep up with Mopar Power. It was a waste of a eng.
What about the 1960 Corvette from Route 66?
What about the Mustang GT in Bullitt with Steve Mcqueen?
Mach 1 Eleanor from 1974. My favorite car chase of all time. They trashed the hell out of it and it still lived.
[…] Like the aforementioned Tri5s, you could get away with picking a lot of different Mopars as your first-round draft pick. But in the end, we’re not inclined to ignore this classic beauty. You Vanishing Point fans know what we’re talking about. […]
[…] original Steve McQueen-driven 1968 Mustang GT 390 was voted by you as your all-time favorite movie car back in […]
[…] its introduction, the 1967 Shelby GT500 reached pop culture icon status when it was featured as “Eleanor” in the movie Gone in Sixty Seconds. Although a number of Mustangs portrayed Eleanor in the movie, the hero […]
General Lee ? 🙁
Your original Top 10 List is absolutely great, and is a generational thing! How many remember Bob Falfa and the beautiful, fast, black 55 Chevy? I always wondered if it was the same 55 used in 2 Lane Blacktop? You do great work, and I don’t give a rats ass about comments made by individuals who have only been around for 20 or 25 years. They have missed out on some really great life!!! Keep up the great work, cause there are lots of us who remember the great times!!! Thanks, Larry
