The champions are no more.

The Yenko Nova came up short in its bid to repeat as Muscle Car Match-Ups champion. And the 2013 champion, the 1965 Shelby Cobra 427, failed to reclaim the title.

That means there will be a brand new champion crowned in 2015.

Chevelle-vs-GSXIn terms of numbers, the 1970 Buick GSX wasn’t a particularly popular model (only 678 were made). Thirty years later, four rare, restored Buick GSX’s sold at Barrett-Jackson auction for as much as $80,000. And now a shot at an even bigger honor: 2015 Muscle Car Match-Ups Champion.

The GSX was introduced as Buick’s answer to the GTO Judge and Oldsmobile 4-4-2, and we’d say: mission accomplished. The Judge and 4-4-2 were sent packing earlier in the competition while the 1970 Buick GSX’s meteoric rise continues into the finals.

While the GSX’s 455 big block has been referred to as the HEMI Killer by many, Mopar fans can actually thank the 1970 Chevelle 454 SS for not having a horse left in this race. The 454 Chevelle SS knocked out the ’70 HEMI ‘Cuda and 2015 Challenger Hellcat during its run to the finals. After disposing of the HEMI cars, it then out-muscled the reigning champ, the 1969 Yenko 427 Nova, in the semi-finals.

Two quintessential General Motors cars from 1970, separated by just one cubic inch of muscle.
