NORWALK, OH. — Maybe there was a better place to be Friday.
A place with nicer muscle cars. With faster race cars and friendlier people. With more car parts and more delicious ice cream.
But probably not.
The 2015 edition of Super Summit kicked off Friday at Summit Motorsports Park, delivering sights and sounds familiar to regular Super Summit goers. Classic cars and trucks. Hot rods. Monster rigs. Race cars. Rat rods. Rumbling engines. Great car parts. Good music. Good food. And many smiling faces.
But that wasn’t all.
Relocating the event to SMP proved a masterstroke for Super Summit participants and spectators thrilled to see new additions like fun runs down the dragstrip, autocrossing, and a special appearance by BIGFOOT monster truck creator Bob Chandler.
We saw 10-second cars scream down the track, Traxxas cars and drones wowing passersby, a you-almost-never-see-that Alfa Romeo, three BIGFOOT monster trucks (which turned 40 this year!), and a whole lot more.
An afternoon thunderstorm threatened the fun, but it blew out just as quickly as it rolled in.
Super Summit is an annual car and truck show put on by Summit Racing which is totally free and open to the public.
The crowd was having a great time. We had a great time. And we get to do it again Saturday.
