If you’ve ever wanted to try land speed racing, there may never be a better time.

ECTA (East Coast Timing Association) has announced plans for its first-ever half mile meet, July 11-12 in Wilmington, OH (site of the Ohio Mile).

What does this mean for you?

According to the ECTA website: “We want to get more people involved in the world of land speed racing and with a half mile of distance, speeds will be thrilling and fun but not (in most cases) big enough to cause a competitor to have to add a cage or other significant safety gear for their first time out.”

This is a chance for most people to try out land speed racing without making significant modifications to their cars.

In fact, if you have a late model car (2008-up), you can run 150 miles-per-hour with stock belts, a long sleeve shirt, and a helmet, according to ECTA’s Brian Lohnes.

Spots are limited to 150 competitors, so you may want to sign up ahead of time.
