In 1964, the Pontiac GTO helped launch the muscle car era of the 1960s and early 1970s.
Combining a larger cubic-inch engine with the Pontiac Tempest’s midsize design, the GTO basically cemented the formula for the American muscle car. The basic template was duplicated in cars like the Chevelle SS, Cutlass 442, Dodge Charger, and countless other legendary performance vehicles throughout the next decade.
Any time we see a first-generation, we feel we need to stop and pay homage. We spotted this 1965 Goat outside of Summit Racing in Ohio.
I love the 65 G T O
Me too, so much I just bought one. The 64 is nice, but looks dated and not as muscular. So many people pass of a Tempest as a GTO, you really need the PHS documentation first hand to be sure.
