It’s back.

DeLorean Motor Company plans to build 300 brand-new DeLoreans and begin selling them in early 2017, the Humble, TX-based automaker told several media outlets.

The car made famous in the 1980s, courtesy of its starring role in the Back to the Future movie trilogy, can be had as a refurbished model for about $50,000, but the renewed production of the stainless-steel, gullwing-doored iconic vehicle will mark the first time in 35 years a new one was built.

Company officials said they hope to keep the price of new DeLorean models under $100,000. No information was available regarding how much might change on the new car, including whether it will also share the original 1982 model name DMC-12, what engine will power it, or to what extent modern technology will be introduced to the vehicle.

“It’s fantastic,” DeLorean CEO Stephen Wynne said in a television interview. “It’s a game-changer for us. We’ve been waiting for this to happen.”

Building new replicas of the 1982 DeLorean is now permitted under a low-volume manufacturing bill passed by Congress in 2015, which allows brand-new replicas of popular classics like the 1965 Cobra and 1932 Ford Roadster to be built and sold without meeting certain modern safety regulations (for things like side impact). Under the new law, those vehicles will be treated the same as kit cars.
