The L92 is a 6.2L, Gen. 4, small block engine used in GM luxury trucks and SUVs between 2007 and 2008. For marketing purposes, it was also known as the Vortec 6200. The information listed here is for a stock L92 engine.
Mechanically similar, General Motors’ LS and LS-based Vortec engines wound up on almost every branch of the GM family tree: Chevy, Pontiac, GMC, Cadillac, Buick—heck, even Saab, Hummer, and Isuzu got some LS love.
Since LS and Vortec engines are so common, they’ve become the go-to performance and swap engines of the modern era.
These motors are capable of making a lot of horsepower, and respond well to upgrades like turbos, superchargers, high-flow cylinder heads, intake systems, cams, and nitrous oxide.

The aftermarket is strong, crate engines are available, and used motors are often cheaply sourced through junkyards.
Summit Racing has created a series of comprehensive guides for each engine in the LS family, so engine builders and tuners can have a handy reference for their projects.
This specific guide is for the GM L92 6.2L Vortec 6200.

Are there any known issues with the AFM components not connected causing problems? I have a prior April 1 L92 and I want to be sure it won’t cause issues.
The AFM will not cause problems if it was never installed into the computer that is where you would have issues but the lifters and oil pack on the valley wont be there so you should be good it was just a different design to the Block than and Non AFM Block.
Can you change intake manifold from the truck style to the camaro style so you can run the big one piece engine cover without losing performance?
Jordan, If you had the early engine and the lifters have never been activated, they will not be a problem.
Shane, the Truck intakes are actually a bit better across the typical RPM range in terms of average power. A LS3 would also require changing parts of the accessory drive to clear the throttle body. ICT Billet has some brackets to do this.
I have a 98K 1500 It has a 5.7 in desperate need of some horsepower only 158,000 on the truck and drivetrain
08 Escalade preignition on startup. Backfires and ringing on starter and ring gear. 145000 km.
one of these sounds perfect for my 93 Caprice the ole 305 is purty tired.. probably just run an aftermarket intake and F.I. system and drive the ignition with an MSD box.

I got a 2008 GMC Yukon Denali and I’m switching the intake manifold. What size is the manifold front height? And what brand/type would you recommend?
You don’t want to change the intake. It is very good for your application. You will power where you need it if you change the intake.
I would love to get on on this subject. I have a 2000 chevy 2500 4×4. Has a LS 6.0 with over 300000 miles. Can I put a LS 6.2 in it with not a lot of trouble. Can I use the same trans.
Switching to a 6.2L LS from the 6.0L LQ4 Would be problematic .. the ECM and wiring harness are different, the LQ4 has a 24X tooth reluctant wheel… the 6.2L has a 58X reluctant wheel. The transmission should bolt up without a issue to the block but If I’m not mistaken the 6L has a longer crankshaft rear journal protruding out where the flywheel bolts up that will become a issue . The only way to do the swap would be with a aftermarket ecm and harness such as Holley terminator X max with transmission control. You might as well just rebuilt and maybe stroke your 6L . It would be easier on the wallet.
I have a like new L92 camshaft. I would like to use this cam in a Gen 4 5.3 with AFM delete. I have heard that AFM cams used in AFM delete application will trigger P0300 misfire codes. Is this true for the L92 camshaft?
yes it will

I did has a 07 yukon denali with this motor in it i ended up totaling it so i pull the motor an swapped it in my06 silverado crew cab that had a 5.3 with two stages of nitrous witha a total of 275 shot and pulled the 4L60 out and put a 4L80 in and i drive it every day the truck was all ready fast but now its a totally dif. ttruck the 6.2 we put a tsp cam heads and already had a cold air intake the truck makes a litte over 900whp with the bottle ever happy i did the swap and it was pretty simple.
Hello!
I have an ’08 Suburban. I swapped out the stock 5.3L with AFM (I think it was an LC9), for a 6.2L L92 without the AFM. Now I want to swap out the automatic 4L65 transmission for a manual NV4500. I have found absolutely nothing on the Web for doing this in a Suburban with a Gen4 engine, but I still believe I can do it.
I’m guessing at a minimum I will need to delete the transmission from the tune and possibly change the driveshaft.
Still I have questions:
1) Can I keep the stock electronic transfer case?
2) If yes, will I need an adaptor for the new transmission?
Thank you for your help.
do you still have the 4L65 by any chance?
Joel – I never did the conversion to a manual. I did a lot of research on it and decided it would just be too much. Drilling a hole in the floor, adding a floor shifter, and deleting the transmission from the computer are the easy part. I was more concerned about having to install the clutch assembly and delete the shifter from the steering column. It is easier if the truck already has a floor-shifting automatic.
So instead I upgraded to a better automatic and added an aftermarket transmission cooler. And no, I don’t still have the old transmission, because I sent it in as a core return.
But if somebody else does a manual transmission conversion to a Tahoe, Yukon or Suburban, PLEASE post it somewhere!
Okay so I have a 07.5 Chevy Silverado 1500 with the 5.3 liter AFM I’m looking to put a 6.2 liter in it stock motor what motor do I go with do they have a 6.2 liter with AFM I got a edge programmer to turn the AFM off just want a little more power
This engine designation is incorrect. L94 has AFM, VVT and FF. L92 only has VVT
I have an 09 silverado cc with lh6 (330k km) that has piston slap. Doesn’t use oil.I’ve got a 09 l92 with 40-50k miles to put in 5.3’s place. My plan is to use my 243 heads and intake on the l92. I’ve got a new gmpp 12638427 cam as well as a 05 lq4 cam.Not looking to make huge HP, just looking to optimize fuel efficiency and maybe nice exhaust sound. also don’t want to loose lo to midrange performance. Between 400-500 HP
would be nice. any thoughts or suggestions, thanks Rene
I have a 2010 Colorado with the LH9 5.3. It doesn’t have AFM but does have VVT. Will the L92 work with the same PCM?
I have a line on a L92 and have a 2013 Denali with a blown L94 due to AFM failure. Can I swap the L92 with the L94 and just disable the AFM in the PCM with minor tuning, not wanting AFM anymore and also dont want to worry about pulling it all. Thanks
Doing a afm/dod delete on a 2008 Pontiac g8 l76. Question what do I do with the plug for the afm/dod system? Can’t just leave it hanging there ?
